Texas FFA through the Years
Thursday, July 12, 2012 | Author: Theresa Fenner, Falls City FFA

Each year, thousands of eager FFA members from across the Lone Star State come together to take part in the Texas FFA Association’s biggest event of the year—state convention. The previous 83 conventions laid the foundation for the progress the organization has made.

With a full four-day schedule consisting of events, speakers, guests, awards, talent shows, rodeos and more, today’s convention differs slightly than the first meeting of Texas FFA members in April 1929 at College Station. When Texas became part of the National Future Farmers of America later that year, the next four years’ state conventions took place in Dallas during the State Fair of Texas.

Over time the convention grew in attendance with the merging of the National Farmers of America with the FFA in 1965, and the welcoming of girls into the organization four years later, which increased members and participation at the state conventions. Today, thousands of Texas FFA members and guests are involved in the state convention.

More activities worked their way into the program as well, such as the addition of the talent show in 1950, which was won by an accordion player. As we approach the 84th year in Texas FFA, let’s remember the past years and conventions, which gave us our foundation, and appreciate the progress to be made 84 years in the future.
