Texas FFA chapters collected an estimated $6,800 worth of books for the Huntsville community, the host city of the 2019 State Leadership Development Events (LDEs).
“Our team decided we would conduct a multi-tier project, with the book drive in Huntsville being the first portion of the plan,” said Bre Bailey, Texas FFA Vice President.
The 2019-2020 Texas FFA Officers set a goal to coordinate a three-tier community service project titled “Raising Change,” that will take place at three events throughout the year: State LDE Contest, State Leadership Conference, and State Convention.
At the state contest, members were asked to bring donations to the contest. Books of all different genres and age-levels were contributed.
“Collectively, we donated 453 books,” said Bailey.
All the donations were delivered to the Huntsville Public Library in Huntsville, Texas.
“Community service provides members with a greater understanding of the importance of putting others first,” said Bailey. “We are pushing every day to make a positive change in the Texas FFA and the community that we serve.”
