My Ethical Leadership Fellows Story
Thursday, June 15, 2017 | Author: Mable Jordan, Texas FFA Ethical Leadership Fellow

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."

Dream More:

In our daily routines, most individuals tend to find themselves dreaming about the future. After graduating high school, I believed that my Texas FFA career was over – until I graduated from college and became an ag teacher. However, I was completely wrong. I  never imagined a simple phone call would present an opportunity that would lead me to Soderquist Leadership in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

Learn More:
That phone call I received was from the Texas FFA Association. It informed me that I had been selected to serve as a 2016-2017 Texas FFA Ethical Leadership Fellow, with two other former Texas FFA members. Our training started at Soderquist, where I had the opportunity to increase my leadership knowledge.

I discovered my personal values, ones that are used for ethical decisions. Then, the Soderquist staff observed as our group participated in multiple activities that demonstrated how we used those values and work together as a group.

Once we completed the activities, it was time for our brains to work together to create a workshop. We used our personal experiences and the skills we learned to build a workshop that other FFA members would, hopefully, learn from.

Do More:
With the knowledge obtained through training, the 2016-2017 Ethical Leadership Fellows left Soderquist knowing that we had the ability to truly impact others. Our training prepared us to face challenges with an open mind and to think everything through before making a final decision.

Through the various workshops our group has presented this year, we have helped Texas FFA members grow and rely on their values to make ethical decisions.

Become More:
Most individuals strive, with a passion, to become something more than we were yesterday. Through the Texas FFA Ethical Leadership Fellows and my Soderquist training, I have become more of the selfless leader I strive to be.

Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious acts, a title, or designation; it is about being the one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way to others.
