Influencers Inspire Scholarship Recipients

This year, more than 135 Texas FFA members received scholarships for different accomplishments both in and out of the classroom. And while credit typically goes to the scholar, it is often those who provide the recipients’ inspiration that are overlooked.
It's easy to take sole credit for the accomplishments. However, Becca Grimes of Gilmer FFA and Wyatt Harlan of Slaton FFA, two Texas FFA scholarship recipients, both attribute their ag teachers as the top source of inspiration.

"My ag teacher has impacted me the most," Harlan said. "Coming into this program, I knew very
little. But my teacher really showed me the way and taught me everything I know."
Grimes feels the same way and says her teachers helped mold her into the person she is today
after four years in the program.
"I come from a really great chapter and I'm so blessed to have such amazing ag teachers,” said Grimes. “They were the inspiration to apply for the scholarship."
Texas FFA members are awarded more than 200 scholarships each year, based on their impressive accomplishments and interview performance. With the help of generous sponsors and the Texas FFA Foundation, deserving members were awarded more than two million dollars in scholarships in 2017.

Coincidentally, both teens say their parents have provided inspiration and key support in their
lives.
“I’m a triplet and I know it hasn’t been easy raising us, but my parents have taught us to work
hard and that if you want something, you have to work towards it,” Grimes said.
Harlan was also impacted by the hard work ethic of his parents.
"I see my dad work so hard all the time and I know that in the future, the hard work will pay off,”
Harlan said. “Watching him work like he does is really inspiring and keeps me going."
