Hallettsville FFA member, Jacob Evans, returned from Washington Leadership Conference last summer inspired to make a difference in his own community. With the help of facilitators and friends, he planned a district-wide meal packaging event.
“Members from Moulton FFA, Weimar FFA, Rice FFA and Hallettsville FFA packaged dry mac ‘n cheese meals in an assembly line. We began at 9 a.m. and worked until 11 a.m.,” said Evans.
Over 60 FFA members from the Horizon District played a role in the meal packaging process. After the event was over, a reported 12,672 meals were packaged and ready to send off to local food pantries.
“Although it may have been two hours of monotonous work, every FFA member that I spoke with after the event said they had an amazing time,” said Evans.
The Horizon District meal packaging event not only united chapters while helping those around them, also it reminded members of the importance of service and leadership.
“The Horizon District is a brand-new district, so another motive to start the event was uniting the district under one common cause - helping our local communities,” said Evans. “Who knew packaging mac ‘n cheese for two hours would be so much fun and rewarding?”
