Weimar FFA Alumni Addison Elstner is using her knowledge of parliamentary procedure to benefit the Texas Junior College Student Government Association.
The Texas Junior College Student Government Association is the only student-maintained organization in the state that works to promote the cause of community college students at the local, regional, state and national level.
Elstner is currently serving as the state parliamentarian of the junior collegiate organization.
“I am lucky enough to stand by our President and help him conduct meetings according to Roberts Rules of Order,” said Elstner. “So far, I have been able to assist with basic voting requirements for bringing in a new group into our organization.”
After graduation and retiring her FFA jacket, Elstner was actively searching for a collegiate organization that would best fit her abilities.
“Once I discovered Student Government, I felt like I had a new challenge,” said Elstner. “With all these new [opportunities], I wanted to impact another audience as much as possible, but this time with all the knowledge and training I have gained from my time in the FFA.”
Elstner stated that the Texas FFA dynamically changed her life. She credits her involvement in various activities, such as the Chapter Conducting Leadership Development Event and the Texas FFA Ford Leadership Scholar Program, for building her skill set.
“Beyond my parliamentary knowledge, I am having to use many of my practiced skills such as public speaking and, of course, my leadership and communication training,” Elstner said. “The best way to keep a muscle at the top of its game is to keep practicing.”
