Students Compete in Agriculture Knowledge Showdown

The Quiz Bowl competition welcomes students to showcase and challenge their knowledge acquired from agricultural education in a heightened competitive environment.

In 2016, Ray Pieniazek, Texas FFA Board of Directors member, proposed to hold an annual quiz bowl contest after noting a loss of curriculum contests opportunities. The first contest was held at the 2017 Texas FFA State Convention in Fort Worth.

Now in its eighth year, the event encourages students to better understand the objectives presented in the Principles of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources curriculum to progress within the competition.

"Quiz Bowl fosters critical thinking, teamwork, and the ability to quickly recall and apply knowledge, skills that serve students well beyond the competition,” Pieniazek said.

As a result of participation in this contest, members develop vital personal and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, confidence, decision-making, reasoning, and self-discipline.

The competition has grown to reach record numbers compared to past conventions. With 36 junior and 66 senior teams, the Quiz Bowl contest is gaining recognition as a state event.

At the 8th Annual Quiz Bowl, Bellville FFA won the Senior Ag Quiz Bowl and Canyon Lake FFA won the Junior AFNR Quiz Bowl.
